Blog Post 4: Data Received

After meeting with Mr. Papadopoulos, I have received a binder including all the exterior camera fields of view. With this information in conjunction with Google Earth I will pinpoint the camera locations and the field of views of each camera. Revised Work Plan: April 15-21: Plot points and fields of view April 22-29: Begin formatting poster, use Powerpoint to upload map and text in; Check in with Mr. Papadopoulos to see how he likes it April 29th: Finalize Poster and clean up data

Post 3 03/25/2019 Map: A hand drawn map will be provided from Public Safety Data Points: The data point will have to be manually placed using the camera screenshots and previously used map that has plotted camera locations. Methods : Public Safety will be providing screenshots of the camera footage. That footage will then be mapped in GIS. Labels : The director of public safety has asked for the name of the camera to be plotted next to the data point. This will allow officers to readily access the location footage is recorded. Location: At a meeting with public safety, it was agreed that we would begin in either the "north" half of Siena College and then work our way south as time allows. Current Progress: Michael Papadopoulos has yet to get back to me with screenshots of any camera footage. I will be emailing him today to check up on his progress with the job. What I will be working on in the meantime: While waiting for Mr. Papadopoulos, I will use my tim...

For my project this week I have emailed the Director of Public Safety Michael Papadopoulos in order to continue progress with my project and to see if he has a map of existing security cameras on campus. Otherwise, I have been examining many satellite and base maps of the Siena campus and I have narrowed the selection down to the two shown above. A base-map or satellite image will be used to plot points that correspond with security cameras on campus. I am in between these two images because I think the defined walkways shown on the top base-map are important when I obtain a final product so the users of the map can better identify where the cameras are in relation to where they are walking or spending time on campus. The bottom satellite image does not have as defined walk was as the top map although the bottom map includes trees which will be very important when the coverage area is mapped in ArcGIS. When I map the coverage area, trees will play a role in blocking the visibi...

Security Camera Coverage Mapping of Siena College Campus. Matthew Prock Siena College GIS Course Project 02/13/2019 Introduction: Top priority public safety on any college campus should be to make sure their students are safe from harm as they go through their day. As times change, threats continue to increase on college campuses world-wide making it important for security to change with it and become up to date. Security cameras are crucial to allow public safety officer to observe what is going on at a different location at real-time. With enough security cameras you are able to monitor throughout the day, a vast area from a desk, keeping an eye out for threats or prohibited activities that may occur among students, and put an end to it before it may impact the students learning environment. Developing a G.I.S. map that shows coverage of security cameras on the Siena College campus will allow public safety to better understand the areas they can and cannot see using cam...
